A Rhythm of Practice
Choice & Commitment as my path to Transformation
The deepened journey into my body these past two years has opened me in ways I’ve never experienced. I credit two things for its depth: choice and commitment. In the consistency of choice, which is what commitment to something requires, I developed a rhythmic practice of going inward, feeling my somatic space, inquiring with it, and permitting it to express, with movement, sound, and dialog. This befriending “conversation” with myself revealed, clarified and helped me understand, and accept. In this process of (re)connection to all of me--feeling internal wholeness as opposed to internal separateness--I experienced release and liberation; My body truly felt an ease that was different, lighter, brighter.
In my rhythmic practice, I accessed many unconsciously held biases and parts. What helped me access this information best of all? Breath, and specifically, a holotropic style connected/circular mouth breath. The most profound evidence of this healing happened after a week-long journey with my coaching cohort; we had a daily 1hr long themed Breathwork practice. As I traveled home from that trip, I realized that the mild, chronic anxiety I’d felt in my chest for approximately 15 years had literally disappeared.
Stay tuned for the next issue where I describe my personal rhythmic practice in more detail.
